September Update (9/29)

Hello Everyone,

We have been getting some questions regarding the volunteer applications, camping, and travel. Those questions will be answered below:

First, due to the high number of competitors and limited timeline, we have a question to ask of you…

Question about Qualifier Format:

Would you prefer a 2 minute qualifier run with a signalled 30 second break (LAAX format), or a 1 minute qualifier with no break?

Obviously, there is something to be said for following the LAAX format to the letter, but it puts an enormous amount of work on the judges (32, 2 minute runs means more than an hour of bounce-by-bounce judging just to seed the brackets). Please respond and let us know which you would prefer to compete in. If one minute is generally supported, we may switch the qualifier format. The battles will remain strictly LAAX Format.

Important Car Camping update:

If you are planning to camp in your car and at the comp campsite, you will need to buy a Premium Vanlife Ticket from the GGBY ticket site. Otherwise, you will be able to park in a satellite lot and tent camp in that area for free.

Volunteer Applications and Discounted ticket sales:

Many of you submitted applications to volunteer at GGBY and compete. We will not be able to approve all the applications, as the department has a fixed number of volunteer tickets, but many will be approved by the end of the day tomorrow. Discounted Volunteer tickets will become available for purchase as soon as possible (the planned date was August 15th, which is partially why there’s been such a gap in communication. We will reach out with more information when that happens. Thank you for your patience.

Reminders from past emails:

For competitors traveling to the states, the two closest airports are Denver International Airport (DEN) and Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC). The drive time to Moab from Denver is 6 hr and 4 hr from Salt Lake City. Moab will be the last town before entering the Fruitbowl wilderness area. It is a 1 hour drive from downtown Moab to the Fruitbowl; make sure you have enough water, food, and fuel before leaving town! Moab has a great gear store (with free water fill ups) and grocery options to meet your needs.

Athletes please plan to arrive and make camp on Saturday, November 22nd, at the latest. You must be present and ready by 8am at the Fruitbowl on Sunday (11/23/25) for the competition to begin!

If you are flying into DEN or SLC, we have several people willing to host those arriving early and we are planning to coordinate a ride share to and from Moab. If you would like travel support, please fill out this Google form with your travel plans so we can best collaborate on rides to the desert!
